Sue Mallett, Professor in Diagnostic and Prognostic Medical Statistics at the UCL Centre for Medical Imaging (CMI) and Senior Statistician for NCITA, has recently launched an online course ‘Designing Diagnostic Test Accuracy Studies – the absolute essentials you need to know’ on the new CMI UCL YouTube Channel.

The course, which consists of nine YouTube videos, explains terminology and talks through practical advice on designing, running and reporting early and clinical phase diagnostic studies.  The course considers the impact of different study designs such as cross section, cohort and case-control studies on the patient spectrum (full range of disease severity) and explains diagnostic outcome measures such as sensitivity and specificity and the importance of a reference standard in interpreting results.
